Steuben County and the Southern Tier Region have many remarkable resources and assets that have the capacity to reshape the economy, generate jobs, and promote regional growth and prosperity. Local and regional initiatives lay out detailed strategic plans to further utilize these resources and develop the county and region.
The I-86 Innovation Corridor Initiative strategic plan calls for investments in:
Steuben County is home to a strong base of multi-national firms in the Transportation Product, Components and System Controls sector including Corning Incorporated, Alstom Transit NA and Siemens. In addition, there are several major supply chain components in Steuben County that have developed a niche both regionally and nationally. These companies, such as Gray Manufacturing, Automated Transit Manufacturing, EPX, TTA, and Mercury Aircraft are succeeding because they are value-added with a focus on quality.
There are additional multi-national firms such as CAF USA Railway Solutions and Hilliard Corporation and several supply chain companies in neighboring Chemung County. In fact, the combined concentration of transportation equipment manufacturing firms in Steuben and Chemung Counties accounts for the highest concentration of manufacturers and suppliers in this sector throughout New York State and the largest location quotient of any other industry sector in each county. The multiplier impact of this sector is estimated at more than 2.45 in jobs and nearly 1.7 in sales.
We are connected! The Steuben County IDA works closely with federal, state, and local government entities, along with Chamber organizations, economic development offices and other partners to provide the most comprehensive list of resources available. If you have a need that we can’t directly provide, we will connect you to the right resource, at the right place, and at the right time.
"The Steuben County IDA is a critical partner to REDEC in every phase of our operations. From providing matching funds necessary to leverage federal and state funds to provide small business loans and related assistance, to serving as a primary source of business referrals, to serving on REDEC’s committees and board of directors to ensure that REDEC successfully promotes and meets the interests of small business in the region. REDEC would not be successful without the benefit of its partnership with Steuben County IDA."
-George Miner, President, REDEC
