NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

A variety of industries have established themselves solidly in the Southern Tier, and offer a wealth of opportunities, products, services, and intellectual property for other employers looking to relocate to this area. Some of the largest area employers are Corning Incorporated, Dresser-Rand, Hardinge Incorporated, Toshiba Display Devices, Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Alstom, The Gunlocke Company, Schweizer Aircraft Corporation, Anchor Glass, Thomas & Betts Corporation, and World Kitchen, Incorporated.
The multitude of industries in this area is a strong representation of its residents. The Southern Tier boasts about its engineers and doctors, laborers and manufacturers, "do-ers" and "thinkers." Virtually any industry would be able to find a skilled workforce in the Southern Tier, and if not, the area is very attractive for personnel relocation.

Corning Incorporated
Corning, NY is the World Headquarters for Corning Incorporated, which is also one of the major employers in the Southern Tier. Corning Incorporated creates leading-edge technologies for many fast-growing segments of the world's economy. Corning is a premier provider of optical fiber, cable and photonic products for the telecommunications industry; high-performance glass for computers, television screens and other information display applications; advanced optical materials for the semiconductor industry and the scientific community; ceramic substrates for the automotive industry; specialized polymer products for biotechnology applications; and other advanced materials and technologies. We also compete in the environmental, scientific and life sciences markets. Corning's innovative technology for the advanced materials market has resulted in products for lighting and emissions systems for the glass and mirror blanks used in the world's largest observatory telescopes. In addition to the Headquarters building, Corning has many manufacturing and research facilities distributed throughout the region.

Dresser Rand
Dresser-Rand calls Olean home for its World Headquarters, and operates facilities in Olean, Painted Post, and Wellsville. Dresser-Rand is the world's leading provider of energy conversion solutions, designing, manufacturing and servicing a wide range of technologically advanced centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, steam and gas turbines, expanders, multiphase turbine separators and control systems. Dresser-Rand is positioned to deliver a complete package of solutions, from initial concept to equipment retirement for the oil and gas, chemical, and petrochemical industries.

Babcock Company
The Southern Tier has a Babcock plant relatively nearby, in Ebensburg, PA. Crowley Foods
The headquarters of Crowley Foods is located in the eastern Southern Tier city of Binghamton. Crowley Foods manufactures and distributes quality dairy, refrigerated, and frozen foods to both retail and foodservice channels. Their quality products can be found from Maine to Florida, and as far west as the Mississippi River. As part of the National Dairy family of companies, Crowley Foods is poised for a new era of leadership in the dairy industry.

Alstom
Alstom is the global specialist in energy and transport infrastructure, offering a complete range of innovative solutions that reduce cost, improve efficiency andincrease productivity. It has manufacturing facilities in Rochester and Hornell, and a sales office in Wellsville.

The Gunlocke Company
This manufacturer of bedroom, library, lounge chairs and office furniture is headquartered in Wayland, in the northern area of Steuben County. Since 2000, Gunlocke has been a member of the Wood Products Group of Hon Industries, Incorporated. Gunlocke has five business units, several of which are located in Wayland: Veneer Casegoods, Seating and Custom and Conference.

Mercury Aircraft, Incorporated
Hammondsport is the Corporate Headquarters for Mercury Aircraft Incorporated. "Since 1920, Mercury Aircraft Inc. has become a leader in the Contract Manufacturing world. Whether it's the fabrication of a simple metal cabinet, or a complex, highly engineered business product requiring assembly of plastic, metal, and electronic components, we do it all. In many cases, all in house or from one of our over 1500 suppliers."

Panelogic Incorporated
Located in Corning, this company offers "total 'concept-to-completion' control systems integration services including design, manufacturing, assembly, documentation, testing and start-up. Through select strategic partnering, PaneLogic can also provide our customers with turnkey automation systems that include mechanical design and build services.

Philips Lighting
This division of Royal Philips Electronics has a manufacturing facility located in Bath. This facility supports its parent in providing both business and residential customers with world class solutions in lighting... where their investments in design and new materials are critical to success.

Polly-O Diary Products Corporation
Polly-O Dairy is a division of Kraft Foods that has a cheese manufacturing facility in Campbell. Polly-O produces mozzarella and other Italian-style cheeses especially for the consumer market. The company has been providing the highest-quality, authentic-tasting Italian cheeses to homes and restaurants alike for nearly 100 years.

Stern & Stern Industries
This manufacturer of woven industrial fabrics has a facility in Hornell. Stern & Stern has been a very reliable source of custom materials since its inception in 1889. The company was involved in the initial development of every major filament synthetic fiber: rayon, fiberglass, nylon, polyester, Orlon, Nomex®, Teflon®, carbon, and Kevlar®. Stern & Stern's production is completely oriented to industrial fabrics: fabrics that are used in industrial products, or in the processes for making such products.

Storflex Fixtures Corporation
Located in Riverside, just outside Corning, Storflex Fixture Corporation began manufacturing operations in 1992. The facility is equipped with the latest equipment, and has the capacity to produce a full range of high quality fixtures in metal or wood.
