These residents are a competent and dedicated workforce able to fulfill many, if not all, technical and creative needs an organization may require. As aptly described on the official New York State web page, the Southern Tier's labor force of almost 342,000 includes more than 6,400 scientists and engineers in the Binghamton area alone, one of the highest per capita concentrations of engineers in the country.

New York State Economy
The influence of technology can not be separated from the New York State economy. Fortunately for the Southern Tier and its associated businesses, technology and advances seem to be readily adopted and implemented for daily business use. The proximity of the Southern Tier to major Northeastern and International business and travel hubs (New York City, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Washington DC) makes it a convenient cross-roads and meeting location for those traveling from different areas around the country. The economy of New York is strong, such that "if New York State were a nation, it would rank as the tenth largest economy in the world." Furthermore, foreign investment is strong in New York, having more foreign investment than another other state in the Union. Thus, the Southern Tier is a great site to relocate or expand a business because of its location, investment opportunities, and strong state economy and governmental support.
